02JulOlivier Theyskens Goes Behind The Camera

Karl Lagerfeld was robbed of one second of attention last night at the Visionaire/Lacoste party which took place on a boat on the Seine. French model Morgane Dubled was mortified when all eyes turned on her because a birthday cake with sparklers had been brought aboard by her friend. The second after the sparklers went out no one any longer cared and Karl figured all eyes were back on him and his entourage. Now, we learn that Karl will be upstaged by the talented Olivier Theyskens who is the new fashion designer/photographer in town. The Nina Ricci designer has shot the label’s resort collection look book. Where Karl gets a huge eye roll from the Army of M.E. at parties, Olivier gets quiet admiration so exacerbated that we cannot even dare to approach -just smile from afar.

02JulFashionation Launches Today

The Army of M.E. understands how tough a launch can be but we’ve become a bit frustrated with this story which we originally ran on June 26th. When we clicked to see the new site everyone’s favorite, The Cool Hunter, was launching it still was not up and where it once said June 26th it read ‘July’ with no date. We just learned that Fashionation launched today. It seems that both Fashionation and The Cool Hunter are taking a century to load -we don’t have time since we’re traveling. But here is the link to Fashion-ation.net. From what we have have seen, it seems to be just photos from editorials -which is what we post when there’s nothing worthy of writing about. Point being, this territory has been covered but we still wish them all the best!

02JulParis Party Propaganda

Reports from members of the Army of M.E. are that couture is more about the parties than the looks -fashion weeks usually are- but when couture takes a turn towards “practicality” as some are perceiving, people will tend to yawn at the prospect usually reserved for RTW. Monday night’s party at the Crillon celebrating Alber Elbaz’s collaboration with Acne Jeans left many in a situation usually reserved for NY fashion week. It seemed the crashers showed up early enough to secure their place, while members of the VIP set were left facing clip-boarded party-Nazi’s on entrance door lockdown. Over at Plaza Athenee on the same evening was another exercise of NY fashion week parties where the hypocrisy of a blow out crowd gathered to fete someone they knew absolutely nothing about -Nick Blast. Dior’s VIP director, Alexis Roche, threw the party which explained the presence of Eva Mendes, Lou Doillon, Leigh Lezark and Margherita Missoni.

02JulChristie’s Auction Today : Y S L

Today is one month and one day since the death of Yves Saint Laurent and Christie’s will be auctioning seven of his designs -most of which are jewelry such as the mosaic glass stone ear-clips pictured here. Each piece selected for the auction is supposed to represent a decade of his work, including a dress design from 1958 which he made for Dior and a Rive Gauche sweater jacket from the ’70’s resembling the one Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis rotated regularly within her wardrobe. Also on the bidding block are pieces from Thierry Mugler, Cristobal Balenciaga, Christian Lacroix and Gianni Versace. This is the first of many anticipated auctions of YSL designs for this year -Pierre Berge announced that most of Laurent’s items will be auctioned off before year’s end.
