Replacing a Nolita/Soho favorite, Buffa’s -a staple greasy spoon that’s been closed a while leaving us to find a new hangover-inspired french fry fix- is Delicatessen. From the owners of Cafeteria who have really stretched their imaginations to bring diner-inspired comfort food such as Reuben fritters, cheeseburger spring rolls and short rib Stroganoff. It’s all you’ve come to expect from this type of exercise: garage doors opening to the street, Terry Richardson photos on the menu and open 24 hours, although not until after Labor Day. There is a glassed-in courtyard lounge area and that glass goes for the ceiling as well (pictured below) and a ‘minibar’ section which is an intimate, chocolate-colored, dimly-lit lounge area. It’s going to be really difficult to convince me to choose this place over within-spitting-distance Pravda which is one of my staples or the place that opened months ago with the same different area-different decor ideal (Elizabeth), but somehow I know I will be persuaded.
