22JulCrack Attack : Baggy Pants Can Get You Arrested?!

Most people in the US, besides those who live in or are from Flint, Michigan, would have never heard of the place had Michael Moore not been from there and referenced it in his films. As if Flint didn’t have enough problems, now the police can fine residents for having low riding jeans! Yes, I’ve never liked the look myself, but I believe a similar subject was covered in the 1969 Supreme Court case Tinker vs. Des Moines as far as expression in schools (thanks Mr. Baptiste for making that stick in 11th grade American history). Michigan officials are attempting to enforce these rules based on indecent exposure laws. Offenders can face a stern warning, fine or even a prison sentence depending on the amount of ass exposure (reference chart above). The real story here, in my opinion, is that the style gives probable cause to law enforcement to further search an offender. Probable cause is one of the scariest concepts to me -especially in the hands of the police. The sponsor of the bill that made all this legal, Algie Howell Jr., claims, “the way you dress does have something to do with how you behave.” Really? So shouldn’t we arrest Paris Hilton and the likes of those who dress like her for spreading potentially harmful STDs or worse?! It’s understood in these communities that these baggy trousers are hand me downs from an older brother and the bigger they are, the bigger the brother and the less you’ll get messed with. The full story is in the Detroit Free Press HERE. But freely debate your opinions below.
