29JulOh, The World Wide Web We Weave…

What in the name of Anna Wintour’s fur collection is going on over at the homepage of MarcJacobs.com?! I’m just going to continue my day pretending that shit was hijacked by some amazing drag queen by night/hacker by day -but truth is, I know better. And while we’re on the subject of WTF? Can anyone explain to me the artistic or political value of the video installment that launched today in the series ‘Political Fashion’ on SHOWstudio? I’ve been such a fan of Jefferson Hack for so long but seriously…what is good about this? (Don’t bother, it’s someone in a burka jacking off a paint brush -it’s just SOO bad). The only thing that pisses me off more than bad art is someone with leverage given an opportunity to make a political statement, especially in these current times, and just wasting it on absolute crap. Nothing in art offends me but do you really think that jerking off is what the subdued voices behind burka veils long for? This is nothing more than the perfect exemplification of why Western ideals are condemned by some from this region. I can continue but I would rather end on a positive note: Nick Knight’s ‘Untitled’ is absolutely wonderful -admitting fashion being seen as ‘frivolous’ (I wish he went all the way to admit that it is) and the industry’s bigotry  and racism against black models…watch that one. He even admits his own personal adherence to these industry standards and how they made him feel -very personal and worthwhile.

29JulLouis Vuitton X Comme Des Garcons

Everyone is hating on this collection right now -especially the first one with all the handles. We find these two the most ‘interesting’. The other bags are such a bore that the visual pollution standards for our Style Republik prohibit me from picturing them here.

29JulMatthew Williamson Leaving Pucci?

It seems the successful designer who has acted as the creative director of perfectly printed and colorful label, Pucci, for nearly three years will be departing. We hear Pucci is scouting for his replacement. As we previously covered, Williamson is working hard on his own label and the opening of his flagship here in NYC in the Meatpacking.

29JulThompson L E S Opens Today

The fourth Jason Pomeranc gentrification installation (in his case, boutique hotel) will open tonight in LES. It has been a rising beacon for years now, haunting the passerby with the anticipation of another neighborhood’s once-vibrant flavor swirling with the tasteless ingredients of its commercialized neighbors. The decor claims to be an homage to the neighborhood but only comfortably within the confines of the usual aesthetic that goes along with this development group. I was living on Allen before they broke ground, I met with a commercial realtor regarding my own endeavors and he was the inside man to all the commercial changes slated for the LES. When he told me about this project I moved as soon as my lease was up. I must admit, I lived around the corner from THOR when it opened and that was peaceful, but does anyone even stay there? It’s always hauntingly vacant in and around that place (although all the action happens upstairs). I just have a feeling that will not be the case for this Thompson property. We covered the story on their Warhol pool back in March HERE, they will have 141 rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows and a staff outfitted in Rogan-designed uniforms. Yawn. (190 Allen St.)
