17SepCharity : Water

We interrupt this fashion week(s) coverage for something of actual importance. Really, these London shows are awful -we may just suspend coverage until Paris, if that. Since the commander of the Army of M.E. is celebrating her birfday tomorrow, she just came across a website entitled borninseptember.org which she obviously was intrigued by. Being the all-knowing, ridiculously-connected and socially-associated person she is, she knew the man behind the website that streamed the below video. She recalled Scott Harrison from her former, less responsible years but was so excited to see someone else who graduated on to doing something more. It’s all too often she finds the same people in the same places doing the same things -as she calls it ‘a pipeline’ through which the same shit constantly flows and she can plug into/out of at any given time and find nothing new other than wrinkles. Well, Scott hasn’t aged a day and here’s why…

15SepCrossing The Pond - On To London Fashion Week

The fashion weeks continue in Europe -where we tend to prefer them- so our London bunkers will be contributing coverage of their favortie looks. In wrapping up NY fashion week -it was your usual symphony of drama and crowds -drunken, sweaty, over-capacity events and such. One refreshing thing we found was something more uncomfortable than our aching feet stomping the pavement in 4″ heels at the end of each day -those insane animated opinions in the StyleFile section of Style.com. What the EFF is that about?! Creeeepy. Their eyes follow your cursor! How disturbing. If any of you actually clicked on one of them, do let us know what you found.

02SepOpening In London Tomorrow: Spin

As we frantically try and make sense of our fashion week schedules on this side of the pond, London is hosting an amazing exhibit at the London College of Fashion. The art gallery at the school is hosting an exhibit which opens tomorrow called Spin. It features artwork by alumnus, and an Army of M.E. Own Personal Jesus, Peter Saville, as well as other alums Faris Rotter and Dylan Jones. The exhibition will explore the relationship between design, art and music. According to Saville, “Between the Fifties and Eighties, before style magazines, MTV and the internet, the record cover was the primary visual communication between young people around the world.” Saville’s covers happen to be some of our favorites for some of our favorite musicians. Pictured here is New Order’s Blue Monday album cover. For those crossing the pond for LFW, Spin: The Art of Cover Design is on from 3. Sept - 3. Oct. at the Arts Gallery, 65 Davies St., W1K 5DA

27AugTonight In London: Lee Jeans Showroom Moving Party

If you’re a NYer: ya know how the lower east side was once cool because it was a destination spot pioneered by iconic stores like Alife, Seven, Cherry, DDC Lab & several other boutiques? and ya know how now everyone has taken that ‘coolness’ to mean they need to follow suit? and how long before all the large conglomerate, flavorless corporations moved in, all the cool above-mentioned shops got the eff out in anticipation of the likes of absolute shite which is now American Apparel-ville? well, Shoreditch/East End is the LES of London. If you’re a Londoner: tonight is another ‘celebration’ of generic  large conglomerate twats (as you would refer to them) invading the East End making it long-expired from the likeness of ‘cool’.

25AugDesigner T - Shirts To Benefit Hospitals Of Burundi

On sale today are some amazing t-shirts to benefit the people of burundi. I’ve always loved her mom Isabella, but it seems Elettra Rossellini Wiedemann is positioning herself to be the next Angelina Jolie -perhaps far surpassing saint Jolie. Elettra is not only gorgeous and has all the right friends, but she is electrifyingly charged about helping the world and those less fortunate. Aside from her Biomedicine studies soon to commence at the London School of Economics, Elettra found time to commission some of her friends to assist in another cause hailing from Africa. Upon learning that once the sun went down, the lights went out in the hospitals of burundi -leaving operations and births to be performed by head lights- Elettra was told it would take only a half a million dollars to change all that. The result is a collection of t-shirts by Chris Benz, Phillip Lim, Rag & Bone, Rogan, Giambattista Valli and House of Diehl. There are limited edition with only 100 of each and all the proceeds go to this charity. Please click HERE to learn more and purchase a tee (they are all really nice). The Army of M.E. adores these collaborations!

25AugColette Paris Re-opens Today!

Our favorite online haunt, Highsnobiety, has a comprehensive first look at much of the interior of the re-modeled Colette in Paris. We covered this whole story when the lifestyle boutique closed less than 2 months ago. The final result, unsurprisingly, looks amazing! There is a Tee Box and a sneaker wall…to read all about it and see their amazing photos click HERE .

19AugCoca - Cola Bottle Design By Rankin

The famous fashion photographer Rankin designed the Coca-Cola bottle pictured here. The limited edition design is in celebration of the hand-over of the Olympic flag from Beijing to London on Sunday. The bottles are appropriately only available at Selfridges in London. Rankin was quoted as saying, “As a Londoner, I love what the city represents -the vibrancy, the strength and the energy -so to reflect that with an image, which also represents the Olympics, was a fantastically exciting challenge for me as a photographer.”

18AugThe 2008 Beijing Olympic Games

It’s been over a week, two weekends, and our captivation and emotional attachment to the Olympic games has only escalated. In our bunkers from London to New York, it is all the same -people in awe, brought to tears and screams of triumph. Witnessing these amazing feats of physical endurance and mental will is an honor. These athletes are amazing -the only real celebrities on this planet as far as we’re concerned. Michael Phelps renews our pride in being American and unites the whole world in celebration -we congratulate him on his record-breaking 8 gold medals. We’ve always watched the Olympics, but this time around it has been extra special…the Army of M.E. bow our heads in salute to these magicians of physical and mental strength.

11AugOpening Ceremony Party & Radiohead At All Points West

*We were actually in the city this weekend so we have reason for a little Monday briefing:

-Friday was 08.08.08 and the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, the Army of M.E. were in attendance…kind of. We were at the boutique Opening Ceremony here in NYC. There was a dj, lots of champagne, many of the Nike’s we highlighted on Friday and one of the only gay/bi/etc. cheerleader groups doing a cheer on the steps leading up to OC’s third floor. The debate was centered all around whether to get the gold/silver Nike Air Force 1’s which were being sold in a very democratic manner of making only so many available throughout time intervals. We had some time to catch up with Humberto and told him how excited we are for the Japanese invasion coming soon! (This is our photo of the Nike Quilted Patent kicks displayed at the Opening Ceremony event)

-Saturday we unexpectedly were invited to see Radiohead perform at the All Points West music and arts festival. It was outdoor on a perfect - weathered night, on the grounds of Liberty State Park which is blanketed by the lights of the hovering downtown buildings of the Financial District and Lady Liberty’s torch. It was the perfect night in every way! Click HERE for much better (for editorial use only) images at Wireimage -unlike our drunken mess of a shot, sorry.

08AugVictoria & Albert : Fashion V. Sport

Victoria & Albert Museum in London is getting in on the Olympic sport action with an exhibit entitled ‘Fashion V. Sport’. “This exhibition explores the creative connections between the two worlds of fashion and sport. Recent developments have seen an increasing number of collaborations…from fashion designers…with sportswear brands to sports personalities heading fashion campaigns or even designing their own collections. (This exhibit) will reveal the complexities and tensions between the two industries.” Click HERE for all the details.
