Frenchman, Andre Saraiva who is best known as proprietor of Beatrice Inn is also known as a graffiti artist, hotelier, and creator of Black Block, a boutique inside Palais de Tokyo, a museum of contemporary art in Paris. Andre has now taken on clothing design turning all his favorite wardrobe staples into sculpted classic pieces that can be referenced time and time again, immune to trend. Included are pocketed Egyptian cotton polo shirts, slim-cut Japanese denim jeans, colorful, braided belts and a leather bomber jacket. Andrewear will be available at Black Block, as well as Colette, in Paris and at Opening Ceremony in NYC.

The past two NY fashion weeks have brought our desks several interesting oragami, cloth, meticulously embossed, unique invites -but for whatever reason, my love for the simple graphics of the Rad Hourani graphics on the e-mailed invites made the biggest impression. A very minimalist concept of white print on black background with information mirrored on opposite sides of the invite. Adequately clear with just a hint of confusion for those stupid enough to not take a moment to pay attention. It seems I am not the only one with this opinion as Hint Mag has commissioned the androgonyst designer to work this concept onto a T-shirt/dress. In this case, the print consists of the dates and times of a calendar -pick yours up HERE.

“reduce me, seduce me, dress me up in Stussy” -it’s a line…from a song…guess? (hint: it could get a little Tricky)
That’s right, the Stussy Chapter Store on Wooster is now closed for good. I was stunned, and feeling much older than I am, when I read it’s been there 10 years because I can easily remember back when it first opened. The label once primarily coveted by the Brits, made a bold move to open in Soho but the shop was always well-received. Whether it was with my man-of-the-moment or male friends visiting from another country, it was a staple stop during our shop crawl. You know you’re in a men’s shop when you find yourself walking up the stairs to the second floor realizing a section of the floor is perforated and those at the check-out counter just below can look up and see right up your skirt. It will be missed, the free shows and all, but don’t fret because another Chapter Store is said to be opening. With the current starting price of Soho commercial real estate upwards of $50,000/mo. we understand the need to break out once the lease is up.

Yes, that’s right, we are covering something about J. Crew even though we haven’t bought anything from there since our days at university. After seeing a sneak preview of the interior, we couldn’t help but like it. It’s J. Crew’s first men’s shop and it pays homage to American workwear in a very, um, intoxicating setting. I’d be really upset about this since I used to constantly meet people at Liquor Store Bar, when I lived around the corner. But since moving out of Tribeca I have completely forgotten about the place until now. Given the changes to that neighborhood since I left, a bar like Liquor Store didn’t stand an un-yuppie-fied chance. And how appropriate that a store like J.Crew move in. The interesting part is that they retained the bar and bathrooms in the newly incarnated retail spot -along with the whiskey bottles. J. Crew is actually great for basics and a great alternative to American App…can’t mention it here since the Army of M.E. have an official embargo on that brand. But this shop will offer more than the usual J. Crew wares -there will be specialty pieces from the men’s collection, Globe-Trotter luggage, Thomas Mason shirts and a section of vintage items like first-edition books and vinyl LPs. Yeah, J.Crew is not that cool on its own, they did commission Andy Spade (of our favorite Jack Spade) for the aesthetics and selection of goods. Also, should you require some skills to pull off your new preppy, cultured look, the store will soon sponsor a series of workshops based on the new book ‘What a Man Should Know’ by Andy Spade and his business partner, Anthony Sperduti. No, it’s not all the lowlife stuff you already know like how to get in a girl’s apartment in under 2 mins. -saying you have to pee just about solidifies that she’ll not only never see you again but she’ll tell everyone she knows how lame you are. These are the skills you need to attract a woman you want in your life longer than one night -like learning to play chess and order wine. I know one step at a time -first we need to get you out of that gimmicky streetwear label-branded tee and trendy florescent shoes. J.Crew Men’s Shop is at 235 W. Broadway at White.
Tonight is the invite-only block party hosted by Nike in celebration of the opening of their 21 Mercer Street shop. It is the only location in the world that will have the entire Nike Sportswear collection as well as seasonal 21 Mercer exclusives. Other items available include the Air Max 90 Flywire, the Flywire Windrunner, 21 Mercer Nike LunaRacer, the made-to-order Air Force 1 Low Lux, the M65 jacket and the NSW 21 Mercer tee collection. As if you needed any more incentive, they will have a new appointment-only bespoke option which allows customers to work one-on-one with Nike designers to customize kicks. Nike Sportswear Bespoke is exclusive to this shop and will launch this Autumn with none other than the world-favorite Air Force 1’s. As for tonight’s event, Nike is transforming Mercer St. into a New York stadium where presentations by artist Robert Wilson, producer Noah Khoshbin, dancer Sofia Boutella, skateboarder Shingo Iwasaki and BMX rider Nigel Sylvester will collaborate in a “unique visual and sensory experience”. Complimenting this will be a series of projects by artists Timothy McGurr, Heron Preston and Boogie -all in attempt to capture the New York streetwear experience. If you were not invited to the party, the store will open tomorrow at 10am. Some photos of the interior:

British streetwear-obsessed curator of Maharishi, Hardy Blechman, dreams in camouflage -this we already know. But, interestingly, Blechman has sourced an unexpected cloth to manifest his dreams into fashionable reality. The boys over at Men.Style.com found actual ties between the clandestine print and traditional woven twill or herringbone pattern, “The estate tweeds worn by Britain’s landed gentry not only allowed families to differentiate themselves, they also blended into the landscape -all the better for hunting.” Actually boys, the Brits refer to it as stalking, but who the hell cares when the result looks like this? This fall Maharishi will release a whole collection centered around the material which Blechman collaborated with Moon & Son on. Moon & Son is a mill specializing in manufacturing tweed fabrics and is based in Yorkshire. The line will include military-style hunting jackets such as the one pictured, shoes and crewneck sweatshirts.
