Beginning today is Costume National’s moving sale with up to 90% off accessories, ready-to-wear for men and women -all from the fall/winter collection! Thurs-Sat 9am-8pm and Sunday 10am-7pm. 108 Wooster St. betw. Spring and Prince. No worries, it’s not going far -just over to 160 Mercer Street.

If tonight’s event promises to be at all as obnoxious as the set up happening on the sidewalk of 14th street yesterday, it will be all the rage. All the PA’s and set designers took over the entire sidewalk of 14th street just past the Apple store (heading west) to the extent that I actually had to go out of my way and step over planks of wood just to get by. Ridiculous, but naturally it was all necessary to ensure a proper press entrance, right? Right. The store has an amazing interior and tonight brought guests Brooke Shields, Maggie Gyllenhaal and many others, but stealing the show once again was Mena Suvari.

In light of the current economic situation, it’s just socially irresponsible to discuss retail opportunities other than those that are severely discounted sample sales. However, we will make exceptions for lifetime allies of the Army of M.E., such as Seven. Their fall/winter stock of Bernhard Willhelm and Henrik Vibskov has just arrived -stop by Mercer St. to see (& purchase) for yourself.

Today is the inauguration of another Bond St. retail outpost. Billy Reid will have a wide selection of men’s apparel and accessories including selvedge denim, woven shirts, handmade luggage and shoes and a capsule collection of women’s apparel for bored girlfriends to browse. It’s a two-floor 1,800sf space on Bond close to Bowery.

As we mentioned previously, Target will be putting up what they call ‘Bullseye Bodegas’ around NYC and we wanted to remind you since they launch today. They will feature 22 top designers and the big incentive is that you will get an exclusive preview and chance to purchase the lines from Sigerson Morrison, Jonathan Saunders, John Derian and Anya Hindemarch -all of which have not launched at Target stores yet. All these fashion and domestic goods are within the Target price-point as well. It’s for 4 days only and they are at 4 different locations: Soho- 489 Broome St. betw. Wooster & W. Broadway, The Bowery- 325 Bowery @ 2nd St., Union Square- 813 Broadway betw. 11th & 12th Sts., Midtown- 101 W. 57th St. @ 6th Ave. Hours: Fri.-Mon. 10a-10p. Here’s a preview of the inside -every last detail is presented in bodega format -v. cute:

Oak Manhattan is celebrating its first fall season in Manhattan, on Bond St., with the offering of an exlusive collection available beginning today. They requested a bevy of designers to create pieces inspired by the theme of “bondage” -kinky. The concept was interpreted by Filippa K, Obesity and Speed, Hood by Air, Complex Geometries and all the others listed on the flier. Although you are back and forth to fashion shows you must make an effort -the looks are only available online and at the Bond St. store Sept. 8-11th.
“reduce me, seduce me, dress me up in Stussy” -it’s a line…from a song…guess? (hint: it could get a little Tricky)
That’s right, the Stussy Chapter Store on Wooster is now closed for good. I was stunned, and feeling much older than I am, when I read it’s been there 10 years because I can easily remember back when it first opened. The label once primarily coveted by the Brits, made a bold move to open in Soho but the shop was always well-received. Whether it was with my man-of-the-moment or male friends visiting from another country, it was a staple stop during our shop crawl. You know you’re in a men’s shop when you find yourself walking up the stairs to the second floor realizing a section of the floor is perforated and those at the check-out counter just below can look up and see right up your skirt. It will be missed, the free shows and all, but don’t fret because another Chapter Store is said to be opening. With the current starting price of Soho commercial real estate upwards of $50,000/mo. we understand the need to break out once the lease is up.

Yes, that’s right, we are covering something about J. Crew even though we haven’t bought anything from there since our days at university. After seeing a sneak preview of the interior, we couldn’t help but like it. It’s J. Crew’s first men’s shop and it pays homage to American workwear in a very, um, intoxicating setting. I’d be really upset about this since I used to constantly meet people at Liquor Store Bar, when I lived around the corner. But since moving out of Tribeca I have completely forgotten about the place until now. Given the changes to that neighborhood since I left, a bar like Liquor Store didn’t stand an un-yuppie-fied chance. And how appropriate that a store like J.Crew move in. The interesting part is that they retained the bar and bathrooms in the newly incarnated retail spot -along with the whiskey bottles. J. Crew is actually great for basics and a great alternative to American App…can’t mention it here since the Army of M.E. have an official embargo on that brand. But this shop will offer more than the usual J. Crew wares -there will be specialty pieces from the men’s collection, Globe-Trotter luggage, Thomas Mason shirts and a section of vintage items like first-edition books and vinyl LPs. Yeah, J.Crew is not that cool on its own, they did commission Andy Spade (of our favorite Jack Spade) for the aesthetics and selection of goods. Also, should you require some skills to pull off your new preppy, cultured look, the store will soon sponsor a series of workshops based on the new book ‘What a Man Should Know’ by Andy Spade and his business partner, Anthony Sperduti. No, it’s not all the lowlife stuff you already know like how to get in a girl’s apartment in under 2 mins. -saying you have to pee just about solidifies that she’ll not only never see you again but she’ll tell everyone she knows how lame you are. These are the skills you need to attract a woman you want in your life longer than one night -like learning to play chess and order wine. I know one step at a time -first we need to get you out of that gimmicky streetwear label-branded tee and trendy florescent shoes. J.Crew Men’s Shop is at 235 W. Broadway at White.
*We were actually in the city this weekend so we have reason for a little Monday briefing:
-Friday was 08.08.08 and the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, the Army of M.E. were in attendance…kind of. We were at the boutique Opening Ceremony here in NYC. There was a dj, lots of champagne, many of the Nike’s we highlighted on Friday and one of the only gay/bi/etc. cheerleader groups doing a cheer on the steps leading up to OC’s third floor. The debate was centered all around whether to get the gold/silver Nike Air Force 1’s which were being sold in a very democratic manner of making only so many available throughout time intervals. We had some time to catch up with Humberto and told him how excited we are for the Japanese invasion coming soon! (This is our photo of the Nike Quilted Patent kicks displayed at the Opening Ceremony event)
-Saturday we unexpectedly were invited to see Radiohead perform at the All Points West music and arts festival. It was outdoor on a perfect - weathered night, on the grounds of Liberty State Park which is blanketed by the lights of the hovering downtown buildings of the Financial District and Lady Liberty’s torch. It was the perfect night in every way! Click HERE for much better (for editorial use only) images at Wireimage -unlike our drunken mess of a shot, sorry.
